The quality of a diamond is determined on the basis of four separate characteristics – carats, cut, color, and clarity. Carats are the weight used to calculate the mass of a diamond. One carat is equal to 200 milligrams or generally the equal of 0.007 ounces. The value of a diamond increases according to the amount of carats.
